Some years ago, I did a workshop called Writing What Scares You. I was riffing off a class that my teacher Chris Abani offered during my MFA program at Antioch University in L.A. The workshop was profoundly moving and I could feel the vibration of energy moving as we presented. There was a participant whose mother had died and he was unable to write about her. Through the workshop exercises—one of which was writing about the situation with yourself in the third person—he succeeded in writing about his mother. Yes, there were tears.
Yesterday, I held my Spirit Session on the Inner Child. At the end, when we were wrapping up, one participant said I’d like to thank you for your workshop some years ago. My mother had just died and she was my whole world. I was grieving her so intensely that I couldn’t write about her at all. Your workshop was the first time I was able to write about her. That helped me immensely in my grieving process. ❤️
The fact of the matter is I’ve been doing healing work all this time. And it’s incredible, as we do what we love to do and share our gifts with the world, we have an amazing impact, that perhaps we don’t see and will never learn of. If you asked me, I’d say, I’ve done some workshops. But perhaps I should say, I’ve helped people grieve.
We’re such an interconnected network of humans, helping each other along our journey as we develop our own. Wishing you the right experiences at the right time to give you the healing and expansion you need.
Onward,
—K.
