Last night, I got a message in a visualization. It was one word: “Decide.” Since last year, I’ve been called to use my art and use my voice more. The creative part of me is ready to flex, but I’m a middle child who loves the shadows, stepping into the light is counterintuitive to my survival mechanisms. The fact is artmaking only happens because of a decision. A decision to show up in front of the page. A decision to follow an idea. A decision to struggle through the questioning to complete your work. No one asks for your creativity, you decide to exercise it, you decide to stand by it, and you decide to continue developing your work.  Whether your work is celebrated or unknown, nurtured or ignored, it’s existence rests on you. It’s up to you to decide whether it lives or dies. So this month, I encourage you to be a lifeline for your creativity. Without your presence, investment, and input, it will not thrive.

Goal Check-In:

• My March novel goal had to shift because the editorial notes were late. I ended up reviewing the editorial notes a week late. I started addressing them with edits and notes last week. Novel edits remain the core of my goal this month.
• I succeeded in drafting out a chunk of the pitch for one of the nonfiction books.  Giving a taste of an idea for a book requires a lot of words and pages! The pitch draft is getting reviewed by my collaborators and we hope to share it with my agent next month.
• Finally, although it wasn’t listed, launching my kids site is a huge goal. I went through one round of site designs. As the next round is underway, finalizing the site will be a big part of April.

You are the only entity capable of giving your creativity life, so let’s commit some effort, focus and attention. Your ideas are worth it!
